Haggis is a traditional Scottish meal made from lamb offal (heart, liver, and lungs), seasoned with onions, suet, spices, and oatmeal, all wrapped around the belly of the lamb.
One story says that in the 9th Century, King Angus in Scotland was preparing for a battle against the English.
St Andrew was a Galilean fisherman and disciple of Jesus. Not, at first glance, the most obvious patron saint of Scotland.
The legendary connection is provided by the journey of Regulus, a monk inspired by a vision to take some relics of St Andrew to the ‘ends of the Earth’.

St Andrew appeared to King Angus in a dream promising him victory and on the day of the battle, an X symbol appeared in the sky, which was the symbol of St Andrew.
He vowed that if they won, St Andrew would be made the patron saint of Scotland – and that is exactly what happened.
Normally, celebrations might include a special type of party called a ceilidh – pronounced “kay-lee” – where people do Scottish country dancing.
But, traditional food can still be eaten, such as cullen skink – which is a type of fish soup – or lamb.
People also eat Scottish foods like haggis, porridge and black pudding.
Seven Scottish sayings for St Andrews Day
Blue clothes and kilts (which are a wrap around knee length skirts) are worn too and people like to paint blue or Scottish flags on their faces.
Cullen Skink is a hearty Scottish soup made with smoked haddock, onions potatoes, and cream.
Neeps and tatties cited mashed turnips (neeps) and mashed potatoes (tatties). These two side dishes are served with haggis in general.
Shortbread is a classy Scottish butter cookie made with simple ingredients like butter, sugar, and flour.
Cranachan: It is a traditional Scottish dessert combining fresh raspberries, toasted oats whipped cream, honey, and a splash of whiskey.
